Facebook

There are two ways to support The 365 Days of Astronomy Podcast on Facebook. You can become a fan of the “product” and/or you can become a reader of the “blog“. The latter is really much more useful, so if you are on Facebook, come join us.

Also, just a small update — the audio is starting to flow in. If your podcast is in January please make sure you leave enough time to get us your audio 30 prior to your air date. At the very least, let us know if it will be late.

To January…and Beyond!

The very cool Emily Lakdawalla recently sent The 365 Days of Astronomy Podcast organizing committee (which she is a member of) an update on signups, from which I quote: The good news is THE ENTIRE MONTH OF JANUARY IS NOW FILLED. Everybody drink a celebratory libation...

Let There Be Audio

As of this writing it is T-30 days until we start the podcast. That means the people who are doing shows the first week of January should be finishing up their audio and submitting it to us via ShareFile using instructions we are providing via email. We are asking all contributors to get us their audio 30 days in advance so we have time to plug holes if they appear. You’ve been warned! 🙂

Many thanks to those who volunteered for January. I’ll report back, but I think we may have filled it up. If not, we only have a day or two unaccounted for. If so, you’ll be hearing about it!

We are doing a special show for the 1st of the year that will include many ideas for those of you sitting on the fence. Go on sign up! You just might learn something.

January Podcasters Needed!

OK, folks, time to call in some favors. As we mentioned, we have a lot of the year covered in terms of user-submitted podcasts but people have been tending to sign up later in the year. We need people to be brave and help us out on the front end.

The open dates in January are:

9
10
13
18
21
23
29
31

So we need eight (8) people to save the day and volunteer to contribute on these days.

Bloggers, send out the word please. If you haven’t signed up yet, please join in now!

Thanks!

What you need to do, summarized

  1. You need to subscribe to the podcast and subscribe to the blog.
  2. You should really man up and volunteer to record a podcast. We’ll help you.
  3. You or your employer may wish to sponsor some podcasts.

You’ve probably noticed that 2009 is getting closer every day!

We’ll have some demo episodes up soon to further inspire you. We are going to be badgering people very soon to help us fill some dates in January. The good news is we have a lot of dates filled throughout the year. The bad news is, we haven’t filled January!

You can achieve #2 indirectly by badgering people you know that might be good candidates to make a podcast. It’s easy and fun and we’ve had a ton of people sign up. If they can do it so can you. Spread the word ’cause the more people that participate the more fun it will be for everyone.

We’ll be using libsyn to post and host the podcasts, but we thought we would use a feedburner feed in case we ever need to change the feed URL. Note the podcast feed is for the podcasts only, you won’t see any of the blog posts on it. The blog feed will contain blog posts and podcasts. The goal is that a new episode will be posted automatically on each feed every day in 2009.
