Description: At the Astronomical League Convention ALCon 2016 there were many informative talks. “The New Horizons Mission to Pluto & Charon” by Dr. Michael E. Summers, George Mason Univ. & The New Horizons Science Team tells us about all the trials & tribulations that the science team had in getting the mission all the way out to Pluto. Then he recounts all the wondrous things the mission found out there. The nitrogen ice plane, the ice volcanoes, water ice mountains and the tholins coloring parts of Pluto and Charon red. The New Horizons Mission isn’t done yet, as it’s heading deeper into the Kuiper Belt to rendezvous with another icy body out there. Stay tuned!

Bio: Richard Drumm is President of the Charlottesville Astronomical Society and President of 3D – Drumm Digital Design, a video production company with clients such as Kodak, Xerox and GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals. He was an observer with the UVa Parallax Program at McCormick Observatory in 1981 & 1982. He has found that his greatest passion in life is public outreach astronomy and he pursues it at every opportunity.
