Description: Quasars and active galactic nuclei are some of the most luminious and interesting objects in the universe. However, they are not always easy to find. Many AGN are obscured by dust and difficult to detect. In this podcast, Dr. Susan Ridgway describes recent research that has uncovered large numbers of previously unseen quasars and active galactic nuclei.

Bio: Rob Sparks is a science education specialist in the Education and Public Outreach (EPO) group at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO) and works on the Galileoscope project (www.galileoscope.org), providing design, dissemination and professional development. He blogs at halfastro.wordpress.com.

Dr. Susan Ridway is a staff scientist at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory in Tucson, Arizona. She works on supporting users of the Gemini Observatory and studies quasars and active galactic nuclei.
