Description: How and when galaxies formed and how they evolve to the structures we see in the universe today is one of the big questions of modern cosmology. In this podcast, Dr. Janine Pforr descirbes how the CANDELS project will use data from the Hubble Space Telescope to further our understanding of these processes that shape our universe.

Bio: Rob Sparks is a science education specialist in the Education and Public Outreach (EPO) group at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO) and works on the Galileoscope project (www.galileoscope.org), providing design, dissemination and professional development. Dr. Janine Pforr just completed a PostDoc at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory in Tucson, Arizona. Her main research interests lie in galaxy evolution, spectral energy distribution fitting and the stellar population properties of galaxies. Within CANDELS she leads the Education and Public Outreach working group and am a frequent contributor to the CANDELS blog. Please check the “Outreach” section for more details. She is in the process of moving to Marseille, France for another PostDoc position.
