Bio: Rob Sparks is a science education specialist in the Education and Public Outreach (EPO) group at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO) and works on the Galileoscope project (www.galileoscope.org), providing design, dissemination and professional development. He blogs at halfastro.wordpress.com.
Frank Hill was born and raised in New York City and graduated from the Bronx High School of Science in 1967 and the City College of New York with a B.S. in physics in 1972. He obtained his Ph.D. in astrogeophysics from the University of Colorado in 1982, and has been a scientific staff member of the National Solar Observatory (NSO) since its founding in 1983. He works primarily in the field of helioseismology, and is the author or co-author of more than 300 scientific papers. He has been with the GONG program since its inception in 1984, and is currently the NSO Associate Director for the Integrated Synoptic Program, which is comprised of GONG plus another set of instruments for solar physics known as SOLIS. Frank’s research interests include large-scale flows inside the Sun, the solar activity cycle, and data management. He is married to Cheryl, has three cats and a horse, and is a fan of auto racing, particularly Formula 1.
