Description:   On February 23, 1987, a Supernova went off in the nearby universe for the first time since this advent of the telescope. Located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, this unusual type II supernova offered a myriad of new in sites on how supernova do their explosive thing.

Bio:   Dr. Pamela Gay is a professor at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville

Alex Filippenko, a professor of astronomy at the University of California – Berkeley.
