Description: Bill Nye the Science (and Planetary) Guy is the Chief Executive Officer of the Planetary Society, the world’s largest member-supported space interest group. Bill shares his passion for the Curiosity rover in this conversation with the Society’s Mat Kaplan, host of Planetary Radio. But will the August 5 landing be the last of its kind for years? Bill and the Society are fighting to restore full funding for NASA’s planetary science missions. He also invites all of humanity to join the celebration with Planetfest 2012 on August 4 and 5.
Bio: Bill Nye the Science Guy is the beloved, award-winning science educator/entertainer whose PBS series got millions of kids fired up about science. He now runs the Planetary Society, which was co-founded by his professor at Cornell University, Carl Sagan.
Mat Kaplan is the Planetary Society’s Media Producer. He has also hosted and produced Planetary Radio, the Society’s award-winning weekly podcast and public radio series about space exploration and development, for nine years. The show presents the men and women who are leading our push into the final frontier, along with regular contributions from Bruce Betts, Emily Lakdawalla, and Planetary Society CEO Bill Nye the Science Guy. Catch it on a local radio station, Sirius XM Satellite Radio, in the iTunes Store, or at http://planetary.org/radio . With this return to 365 Days, Mat and the Society kickoff a monthly contribution on the last Thursday of each month in 2012. Finally, we have already sent a rover to Mars safely. Long live the guys in NASA, especially the one with the famous, playful mohawk. That flight director, along with his team members, deserve our embrace for devoting years of their life to this project. Now that they have already gotten that rover to the Red Planet, it is time to start working on whatever photos the rover can capture of Mars.
