Description: The Dark Sky Festival will occur on April 14th, 2012; which is the first day of International Dark Sky Week. The festival is held in the Town of Harmony, Florida from 6pm to 11pm.. The festival’s purpose is to educate the public about astronomy and the importance of preserving dark skies – not only for astronomy but for nature. We will be featuring speakers from NASA, star observations on “Telescope Hill,” Glow Golf, a StarLab Mobile Planetarium, and more!

Bio: The Town of Harmony is the largest Certified Green Community in Central Florida. Harmony has been holding the Dark Sky Festival since 2003. The festival was created to bring about awareness of the dangers of light pollution, while at the same time offering a family-friendly event in which community residents and all astronomy enthusiasts can gather to enjoy their hobbies together. Around 5,000 people attended the festival in 2011; a number which is only expected to grow for 2012. Harmony is located on US Highway 192, about forty-five minutes from Orlando and 30 minutes from Melbourne, Florid.
