Description: The Actual Astronomy Podcast presents The Skies over the Southern Ocean. In this episode we talk with Micahel Wright who recently visited Australia to view the Southern Skies for the first time. Michael provides a travelog of his trip as well as what he was able to see in the night sky from down under through a 20-inch telescope. Michael paints a picture for listeners through his sketches and explanations as well as a run down for how to plan your own trip.

Bio: Shane and Chris are amateur astronomers who enjoy teaching astronomy classes and performing outreach where they help the eyes of the public to telescope eyepieces.

Transcript:

Skies Over the Southern Ocean with Michael Wright on Episode 474 of the Actual Astronomy podcast. I’m Chris and joining me is Shane. We are amateur astronomers who love looking up at the night sky and this podcast is for everyone who enjoys going out under the stars.

Michael Wright is a visual observer / Sketcher from Kitchener-Waterloo area, President of the KW RASC Centre, piano teacher and college instructor.

Welcome back to the show Michael. Now at the last KW Centre did I hear you correctly, that you are stepping down as President or are you just up for election?

You’ve done a great job, especially with outreach and still getting out yourself to sketch/observe. What were the best & most difficult parts about being a President for an RASC Centre? What advice do you have for other centres?
