Gravity has shaped our cosmos. Its attractive influence turned tiny variations in the amount of matter present in the early Universe into the sprawling strands of galaxies we see today. A new study using the first year of data from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) has traced how this cosmic structure grew over the past 11 billion years, providing the most precise test to date of how gravity behaves at very large scales. In this podcast, Pauline Zarrout discusses these results and the future of DESI research.

Bio: Rob Sparks is in the Communications, Education and Engagement group at NSF’s NOIRLab in Tucson, Arizona

From 2015 to 2018, Pauline did her PhD at CEA-Saclay on the clustering analysis of eBOSS quasars. She is a laureate of the 2018 L’Oréal-Unesco fellowship For Women in Science. Then, she continued as a postdoctoral researcher in DESI at the ICC at Durham University. Since October 2020, she is a CNRS researcher in cosmology at LPNHE.
