Description: Welcome to the 21st episode of the Urban Astronomer Podcast, and the 2nd in our series of public lectures delivered at ScopeX 2017. ScopeX is the largest and oldest astronomy event in South Africa, featuring the work of the local Amateur Telescope Making community, talks and lectures, astrophotography, rocketry, and more. The lecture presented in this episode was by Lee Annamalai, of South Africa’s Center for Scientific and Industrial Research. Lee manages the CSIR’s Earth Observation ICT systems group, and in his presentation he discussed plans to improve wildfire monitoring with nanosatellites.
Bio: Allen is an amateur astronomer, an IT professional, a podcaster, a father of five beautiful kids and a barely competent chess player. He is also the director of the Astrophotography Section of the Astronomical Society of South Africa, where he coordinates and promotes the activities of people who are far better photographers than him.
