Title: The Yerkes Telescope and Observatory

Podcaster: Alan Agrawal

Description: I will describe key features of the history of the Telescope and Observatory, which will include points about George Ellery Hale, details of the telescope and the 40″ lens, and highlights of some of the research done with the telescope. I will conclude with some points about observations from my recent visit there, and then mention some good references for further reading.

Bio: I am an amateur astronomer living in the San Francisco bay area with a deep interest in all things astronomical, particlulary deep sky observing ( with my 24″ reflector), history of the telescope, telescope design and construction, and cosmology. I have built my own telescopes, am an active member of the Mount Diablo Astronomical Society, and have just joined the Antique Telescope Society. I have had a chance to tour the Lick, Keck, Apache Point, and Yerkes observatories.
