Description: Astronomers have large data sets that contain many terabytes of data. Using these datasets on laptop computers is not possible. In this podcast, Dr. Knut Olson discusses a new approach that is being developed by NOAO to deal with large data sets. The NOAO Data Lab will let astronomers manipulate data on remote machines enabling new types of research.
Bio: Rob Sparks is a science education specialist in the Education and Public Outreach (EPO) group at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO) and works on the Galileoscope project (www.galileoscope.org), providing design, dissemination and professional development. He blogs at halfastro.wordpress.com.
