Yes, that’s right, one million. (or 1,000,000 or 10^6 if you want to be cool about it)
When CosmoQuest went live with Moon Mappers nearly a year ago, a goal was set to map one million craters and we’re almost there! As a fun way to show the progress of the goal, the graphic on the page started off as a “New Moon” phase and has slowly waxed its way across from crescent, to first quarter to waxing gibbous to now almost full!
That’s right! We’re almost there!! Just over 10,000 craters left to map before our goal is met. Thousands of people from across the Earth have joined together to participate in actual scientific research and map craters on our favorite natural satellite, Luna.
What can you do to help us reach our goal? Head on over to http://cosmoquest.org/mappers/moon/ and create a free account. You’ll be given the opportunity to participate in multiple citizen science projects, including Moon Mappers. There’s a forum where you can ask questions if you’re confused about any of the images you’re marking, which can be answered not only by fellow users, but by the actual team scientists on the project!
Thank you all for your continued support, participation and enthusiasm for science and research! If it weren’t for you, this research would take a VERY long time to complete. You are the ones helping all of us better understand the Universe around us. You are awesome!
