Hello, hello again! This is your weekly update on all things going on at CosmoQuest.
“Free Wifi on Mars” Now in Print
The activity and comic book “Free Wifi on Mars” is now available in print and launched at Balticon this past weekend. Dr. William Keel from the University of Alabama, principal investigator of the Hubble program supporting this graphic anthology, was on hand to help with the distribition and a little science talk on the side. See the pdf version at freewifionmars.com. This book features short stories by Scott Sigler, Christiana Ellis, Mur Lafferty, and Nathan Lowell. Print versions will also be available at Dragon*Con!
We want to know what you think!
Two weeks ago we launched a survey to try and better understand what it is that brings you to CosmoQuest, and to get to know you a lot better. We’re excited by the results we have so far, but we need more responses before we can really dig into the data. Give a researcher a click? Please take our 20 question survey and get access to a silly video and a preview of our new homepage design for your time.
Science Takes Wing
- Last week’s newsletter was ruthlessly eaten by travel. Learn all about it on our blog in the coming days while we play catch up.
Where will we be next? Check out our calendar! Here are the highlights:
- June 2-6 – Indianapolis, IN – AAS Summer Meeting – Nicole Gugliucci will be presenting results of our CosmoQuest citizen science motivations survey at the American Astronomical Society meeting in Indianapolis in June. Social MeetUp details coming soon!
- July 4-7 – Minneapolis, MN – Convergence SciFi Con – Nicole Gugliucci is off again. This time she’ll be inflicting our brand of science on the attendees of the Con.
Upcoming Hangouts
We strive to bring you entertaining and educational programming several days a week using Google Hangouts and YouTube. You can watch live and join in the comments or view the archived versions on YouTube. This week’s programming includes:
- Friday, May 31 @ 12pm PDT – Weekly Space Hangout – Fraser Cain and a team of astronomers, space journalists, and science aficionados bring you this week’s top stories in space and astronomy.
- Sunday, June 2 @ 9:00pm PDT – Virtual Star Party – In partnership with Universe Today, we bring you a weekly tour of the wonders of the night sky thanks to a team of astronomers willing to share their telescope views with you. As always, this event is weather dependent and subject to a time change depending on conditions.
- Monday, June 3 @ 12pm PDT – Astronomy Cast – Fraser Cain and Pamela Gay record an episode of Astronomy Cast live on Google Hangouts and, afterwards, take your questions about space and astronomy.
