CosmoQuest-a-Con Mask-querade

What is a con without cosplay?
We’re not sure. Is that even a con?
Get your cosplay on with the Mask-querade

During these plague-times, we’re rebranding our con’s Masquerade as a Mask-querade, and we’re requiring all cosplay to incorporate masks that meet basic protective standards (see rules below). We’re also adding low-key categories so everyone can join in the fun.

The Rules

The following guidelines apply to all categories:

  1. Every entry must include a mask that is snug around the wearer’s mouth and nose, is constructed of multiple layers of material of fabric, and has a pocket for a filter.
  2. All entrants should be related to space & astronomy in some way.
  3. All submitted videos and still images must be family-friendly. Bodies must be reasonably covered, and no adult-content should appear in the background. (If you wouldn’t see it in a sitcom like “Parks and Rec” it shouldn’t be there.)
  4. One entry per category per person.
  5. To enter, complete the Mask-querade entrant form.
  6. Each category has additional category specific rules. Failure to follow all the rules above and category-specific rules can disqualify entrants so please double check everything before submitting your entry.
  7. Submitted photos should all be square or landscape.
  8. All entries must be received by 5pm Eastern on Saturday, July 18, 2020.
  9. All entries will be eligible for both a judged prize and a People’s Choice award based on voting in Discord.

Categories

Just a Mask

Show off your mask-making craftsmanship with this mask-only category. Give us a look you could totally wear to get groceries and we will celebrate your plague-time stylings.

Submission: Entrants will be asked to submit 4 photos: 1) closeup of front of the mask, 2) closeup of back of the mask showing it has a filter pocket, 3) the mask on a person (or person substitute) with their mouth closed, and 4) the mask on a person (or person substitute) with their mouth closed. One additional “live action” photo may optionally be submitted – and yes, you can totally use a skeleton, mannequin, or something else creative and mostly human shaped, provided it has a mouth you can open and close.

Judging: Masks will be judged based on their ability to function as a protective mask, quality of craftsmanship, originality, and how well they relate to space.

Judging: Cosplay will be judged based on the mask’s ability to function as a protective mask, and the cosplay’s quality of craftsmanship, originality, execution of backdrop, and how well it relates to space.
