Perseverance Rover Retrieves a Rock Sample

We have a happy update from Mars: the Perseverance rover has successfully sampled a regular rock! Its earlier failure is looking like a fluke of the rock just being too soft and crumbly to work with the sample tools. We also feel the need to point out that the rock they sampled now looks rather like a smiling whale head. Who said scientists don’t have a sense of humor?
