On Thursday, October 4, we’ll be premiering a new planetarium show called, “Cosmic Castaways.” This show tells the story of how galaxy interactions and mergers can leave stars abandoned in the voids between galaxies, and how we are able to find these stars through careful observing. It was produced at Ward Beecher Planetarium, and I had the honor of getting to narrate.

Just imagine for a moment what it would be like if Earth was one of these stars, stripped away and drifting. We could quite possibly have an empty sky, devoid of any stars visible to the unaided eye. We’re lucky to be safely nestled in the gravitational arms of our galaxy, snug in a pack of similarly orbiting stellar systems. Not all stars are so lucky, and in densest galaxy clusters, where galaxy harassment is the norm, lost stars wonder in vast numbers in the intergalactic spaces. Cosmic Castaways takes you on a stunning scientific journey through the life of these lost stars.

Tickets for this evening event are $75, and proceeds will be used to produce future planetarium shows and accompanying materials and programs. Reserve your tickets now!
