Moon as Art Winner

You voted, and the results are in. The most beautiful image from the Moon is of the central peak of Tycho!

The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter team selected the 24 most beautiful images from the mission and let you vote on the best of the top 5. That winner will become toe cover of the Moon is art collection!

The collection spans a range of sizes and information, showing crisp black and white images like the one above, color-coded laser topography, and false color images to highlight features that cannot be seen by the human eye. This is a great example of where science gets to show its aesthetically pleasing side (not that we’ve ever really had a shortage of that in astronomy!)
