Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the United States, and although our astronauts in the International Space Station are working up their with their peers from multiple countries, missing time with families can be hard. So NASA tries to make sure that there are ways to celebrate, by sending up special food and treats.

Here’s Expedition 50 Commander Shane Kimbrough of NASA discussed how he and his crewmates will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday and his view of Earth from orbit during this holiday season.

While it’s a far cry from the famous Thanksgiving potatoes that saved fictional astronaut Mark Whatney in “The Martian,” our astronauts do have some special food. What’s unusual is the way that they have to prepare it all – nothing like Grandma’s kitchen!

Here’s another video from last Thanksgiving, where Astronauts Scott Kelly and Kjell Landren (who are now home and likely enjoying a hearty dinner in Houston!) show off their Thanksgiving spread.

From all of us at CosmoQuest, we wish you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving and a wonderful holiday season.
