Description: How do sunspots work? What do magnetic fields have to do with it? Who was Zeeman and why was his splitting so important? I discuss these questions and more in today’s Ask a Spaceman!

Keep those questions about space, science, astronomy, astrophysics, and cosmology coming to #AskASpaceman on Twitter@PaulMattSutter and Facebook/PaulMattSutter for COMPLETE KNOWLEDGE OF TIME AND SPACE! Music by Jason Grady and Nick Bain.

Big thanks to my top Patreon supporters this month: Justin Gealta, Jerry, Tim Feaver, Helge Bjorkhaug, Alan McClintock, Tim Rattray, Ray Sutter, MIchael Clanton, Bill Smith, Lars Hammer, David Ciaverella, Silvan Wespi, and David Berger!

Bio: Paul Sutter received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellow. He then spent three years as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Next-Generation Cosmic Probes at the Paris Institute of Astrophysics, and is currently an INFN Fellow in Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy, and a Visiting Scholar at the Ohio State University’s Center for Cosmology and Astro-Particle Physics. He is inexplicably drawn to positions with very long titles.

Today’s sponsor:  This episode of “365 Days of Astronomy” is sponsored by — by .SPACE Domain Names.

.SPACE is a brand new domain name extension for the SPACE Industry. It is now possible to have a more defining and memorable website address like www.YourBrandName.space which clearly identifies your industry and specialization, rather than a .com.

We’ve got a few cool names like www.cosmoquest.space for ourselves, and you should get yours right away. Head over to www.launch.space now and Use the coupon 365SPACE at checkout to get a special discount. Link in the description below!
