    I protest!

A few days ago, an old thread was resurrected: http://www.bautforum.com/science-tec...ontrol-14.html

It was closed down and locked by PetersCreek after two or three new contributions.
The new posts, to be honest, didn't add much nor did they change the tone of the thread, which for such an inflammatory subject had been a model of reasoned debate. Well, almost, but there had been no flaming or, if memory serves me, posts deleted by the Mods.

In the last previous post in that thread, I had volunteered to be on the last barricade in favour of free speech, with Voltaire and Mikes, whatever the opinion expressed as long as it was rational and reasoned. So here I am again, bloodied but unbowed, to raise another barricade and demand that the thread is reopened.

Close it down again, IF the language and the politics become ill-flavoured, but not until.

    Dramatic much?

To be fair, I did find it amusing how quickly the thread was locked down, when it went on for so long previously. But at the same time, people keep complaining about how the moderators are inconsistent. So now they're acting consistently, but that's bad too.

Starting a new thread, particularly outside of Forum Introductions and Feedback, is not the way to disagree with moderator action. Please particularly note the last paragraph of Rule 17 (below)
    17. Moderator Actions

If there is a rule violation, then a moderator will take action. This may include: the deletion of a word or phrase (if it breaks the rules), the removal of an entire post (if it is beyond redemption, or if it's a spam, etc.), the merging of a new thread with an existing one on the same topic, the closing of a thread if it wanders too far off-topic or gets too heated, a gentle warning to a user or users, a not-so-gentle-warning, and as a last resort, the banning of a user. This banning may be temporary or permanent, as outlined above. If a moderator gives you advice, we advise you to take it.

If you disagree with a moderator action, then PM or email the moderator, a different moderator, or an administrator. We will review the case and take action as needed.
You can also use the Report Post function ( ) either on my post here, or the last post in the particular thread, to bring it to the attention of the Moderation Team.

If you want to discuss this further, use one of those mechanisms. This thread is closed.
