    Humorous Mars "images"

We've had a few of these, though I can't track down the threads at the moment, so I figured I'd start one for the general topic. as well as making an initial contribution.
Everything I need to know I learned through Googling.

Rose is Rose also has a few entries on the topic (go forward for the next three days for more topical strips - use the calendar below the strip, not the "next" button).

On the CBC the new show called Monday Edition (a news spoof show hosted by Rick Mercer) they said that they just got telemetry from the Beagle 2.

"Beagle 2's" camera pans out showing a desolate arctic environment. Then an Inuit sticks his face in the screen and says "Welcome to Iqualuit *&%#@^%$. Well I thought it was funny.

Looks more like a dug up bigfoot proint to me....

Maybe bigfoot was digging up its footprintss to hide them when the rover came over the hill and he had to hide mid dig.

That and the Peace sign. It is well known Martian Peace signs are in the shape of a 4 dimensional cube. So henche the pic is fake.

Bad Astronomy in one of those (more subtle than the obvious & deliberate distortions):
Martian sitting around, reading the paper next to another with a telescope. Paper headline reads: "Earth closest for 60,000 years; 35 million miles away". While I suppose they might have an analog to the mile, which might happen to be about the same size, they should definitely be counting time in Martian years, so about 28,000 or 30,000 is what it should have read (I don't know how precise the 60,000 number is).
On the other hand, they might count in octal, which would make 60,000 into decimal 24,576. But we all know that real Martians use trinary anyway, right?

    I love this:
The scientific world has responded by saying that the notion of the Mover/ Kitten is not a concern of legitimate research and should be relegated to the pseudo-scientific world. The pseudo-scientific world has responded by saying that it needs at least three endorsements from independent crackpots before anything can truly be called "pseudo."

This was from Mars Global Surveyor from 1999.

However, Good Morning America showed a recent shot on their show this morning.

Rover and Track reviews the new Mars rovers

Word is also that JPL's internal website had some April Fool's stuff up:

Elvis was photoshopped into a Martian landscape, and the accompanying text said that Spirit (or Opportunity, can't remember which) was going to investigate a certain Jailhouse Rock.
