Powers of Ten: From the Milky Way down to quarks

    Folks,

This is the best science animation I've seen in a while.

    http://molecularexpressions.com/prim...f10/index.html

Let the applet load up and travel down in scale from the size of the Milky Way to the quarks that make up the protons in a carbon atom.

    I kid you not. 8)

    Very nice.

That graphic has been brought up before, by Beaver and NCC-1701.

Even earlier, amstad pointed out that Charles and Ray Eames, the creators of the famous book/movie that is mentioned at the bottom of that webpage, have a website, Powers of Ten.

I always liked the whole powers of ten thing. It gives you both an understand of the wide range of sizes in the universe, as well as respect for the number 10.

Well, it's six months old--isn't the half-life of an internet link about eight weeks?

Asimov made an interesting description of the size relationships of the universe using powers of 0.5, in his book "The Measure of the Universe".
