    The Moon and Antares : occultation

    Dear Friends:

    I am sending for appreciation of you an image of the occultation of the star Antares for the Moon, occured yesterday, day 27 of August of 2009.

    The event was visible only in a small part of Brazil .

    Here, in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará (in Brazil ) the star Antares did not want to deprive us of your beauty and hide behind the Moon.

    Decided to share your walk with the Moon for awhile, to our admiration.

    Mosaic composed of 7 images.

    Date /Time: Thursday, August 27, 2009 / 23h20m to 23h22m (UT)

    Equipment:

    Newtonian reflector telescope of 275 mm aperture, f / 6. Alt-azimuth mount, non-motorized.
    Ocular 58 mm .
    Panasonic Digital Camera Model DMC-LZ7 (not DSRL) – 7.2 Mega Pixels
    Exposure Time: 1 / 60 s
    ISO: 100
    FNumber: 4.40

    Afocal method.

    Software used:

    Microsoft Image Composite Editor
    InfanView 4.2
    Filters Unlimited 2.0
    Color Efex Pro 3.0

    Is that Antares below the Moon in that composition?

    That is a really, really spectacular shot of the Moon. The half moon is always best for seeing detailed texture (shame it's always of the same area though). I mean that is really good! Look at Alphonsus. That's is beautiful.

    WOW, thats gotta be the best conjunction picture I've ever seen. Definatly kicks the *** off my ones from last year Didn't know how to use my camera properly then).
