Maybe very bad combo for them, thing is I truely think they realise how much they scare people and just keep doing it because they get some weird thrill out of it, really makes no sense to me.

of course there's one thing that those who believe in it never give up on.

    "what about the bunkers being built and seed vaults!?" --;

Does anyone ever provide evidence of these "bunkers"? If not, I think we can ignore them.

    Seed banks: no great secret/conspiracy: e.g. http://www.kew.org/science-conservat...ium-seed-bank/
There are very good reasons for these projects without have got invoke "2012".

Last time I checked(a few months back.) some people apparently think Jessie Ventura's conspircy theory show proved that there were bunkers, though why people would find his show credible i have no idea.

Yet that seems to be the biggest peice of "evidence" the believers go by in regards to the bunkers.

There are governmental bunkers. They're left over from the Cold War, when you didn't have to be a rocket scientist to determine that there was a possibility they'd be needed.

If you throw a degree of intelligence and some restraint it aint all bad.

Fear sells and manipulates. There's great financial incentive to push these sorts of things.

    Hiya Spoons

Yeah I know fear sells I have been there first hand with the LHC back in 2008, nothing worse than seeing headlines we are all gonna die in 7 days lol, funny thing is now I help people with their fears especially when it comes to the LHC, as for 2012 well there is a lot of people scared by it and its only going to get worse as this year goes on, hard to believe that so much has happened already this year already and we are only 4 weeks in lol. but then you but you have people like Harold Camping saying we have the second coming on May 21st this year well one good thing about this is I will get to see Brian Cox before hand :P because thats on the 7th of May

    Hey hey hey!

7th of May? What's that? I'd be interewsted in that 10th of March one - Douglas Adams Memorial Lecture.

The info is all out there, regarding fearmongers and their claims. In general it may be best to approach it the way Jayutah has with the Monhoax claims - create a brilliant site covering all aspects (or do similar in forum threads such as on here or on that Portal forum you help with) and then direct people to the precisely worded, succinct and accurate responses.

Those that want to learn (such as yoiur good self) will have easy access to the answers, and those who are just looking to back up whatever belief they already have usually won't be convinced otherwise anyway. If they don't wish to learn then they're probably best not being too concerned with anyway.

Yeah the 7th of May its a science and comedy tour with Brian Cox, Robin Ince, Simon Singh and Ben Goldacre I am a very big fan of Brian LOL *blushes* should be an awesome night I can't wait and it's like 4 months away yet LOL, ooooo the Douglas Adams Memorial Lecture would be cool I think

I completely agree with you, the info is out there but I find some people tend to read it then they read between the lines and star making things up don't understand that bit, see I can ask the questions and get the answers but sometimes I don't understand the asnswers so I ask more questions will I can understand the reason exactually why I shouldn't be scared

Sometimes think that me helping people is going to waste because I can tell them all the facts why not to be scared and they still are, maybe it really is just your mind set? once there is something in there it sticks and when something out of the blue happens they connect it with what scares them.

talk about ghosts from the past, i got a youtube message today from someone i commented on saying that "nibiru was seen." this is what they had to say.

"NASA has shown pics of this thing. I don't profess to anyone. You will have to read and judge for your self."

Of course that's only halfthe message since he went onto a tyrate about religion and the hopi indians.

I don't recall showing NASA showing pics of Nibiru, what's this person thinking?

They are talking bull, why? because they can, there is alot of people out there that believe tha nibiru is out there what do you think? myself I don't think it is, same as Planet X think people just get bored and think these things up for the fun of it not realising what they actually do to people. or maybe they do....

don't worry this is what i said to them not counting the last part since it's religion based.

"NASA has done no such thing, and double standard much? You don't trust the word of a NASA scientist yet your trying to claim they have evidence of it's existance? In other words you just contradicted yourself.

Sides i know plenty of astronomers who aren't with NASA who haven't seen it, if it was going to be here by 2012 we'd be able to see it clear as day by now."

If the person responds again i'm gonna try my hardest to get them to come here...i dislike people who use double standards...

Oh that would be so awesome if you could get him here, I am sure people would completely rip him to bits, and yes I also know plenty of astronomers who would have said something if they had see anything out of the normal. let me know if you do get him here I really want to watch when he does

Just gets to me all these people saying stuff and to be truthful with you I don't think half of them have any idea what they are talking about in the first place

We don't want to rip anyone to bits, we prefer to feast on them whole. No flesh like twitching flesh.

No, attacking the person is uncalled for, but providing an accurate assessment of their argument is just what is needed.

Regarding what you said a few posts up, yes, sometimes the referring to a website doesn't cover everything, it may require certain amounts of base knowledge or skillsets to process the info, so that's when the forum can step in to do wonders - interpret their level of understanding and formulate an explanation aimed at what you perceive will work best for them.

But through the forum interactions, it's often pretty clear early on if they're not going to be open to discussion of the facts and learning. At that point, as is often said here, it's probably best to change gears and post for the lurkers, then drop out and let them spin in circles. That can sometimes be fun too.

I think the most important thing is to not let others get you too worked up. There's plenty of stuff in life to do that for you, I'd avoid letting people do it too.

Oh, and that Science / Comedy show sounds awesome! They're my two favourite things, maybe intertwined with music. And Robin Ince is great too. Long wait, but hope it's a blast when the time arrives!

    Hey Emmy,

    It's CaneLaz!

I'm just getting started on my own 2012 blog. I'm most interested in the doomsayers that make money off of the fear of others. I find it to be a putrid act, even if it's sincere.

Here's an argument against - and perhaps an even better reason for - believing the "Mayan 2012 Prediction."
