    Random UFOs in the News.

I thought we already had a catchall thread, but I can't find it.

Family tapes 'UFO,' goes home to pray
Possible UFO caught on video 1:22
Denna Smith and her family video taped what they believe was a UFO in the sky over a Virginia theme park.
Possible UFO? As opposed to a definite one?

What's even worse is that the park has identified it as a smoke ring from thier volcano coaster and the story goes right on ahead as if to dismiss the explaination.
They go ahead and interview a UFO expert who would be "convinced if it weren't for pictures of a similar sighting" in the 50s?

Why, did they not have the technology to make smoke rings back then?

And naturally, the actually video of the ring is only about a second long, so you don't get to see how it behaves at all. It might as well have been a still photo cherrypicked for the most effect.

Absolutely. It is the difference between "I might not know what this is" and "I absolutely don't know what this is".

My question is, who is handing out these "expert" titles, and where can I get one?

I'm not quite sure I understand. Are alien spaceships powered by internal combustion engines that "belch" smoke rings?

A UFO does not mean a space craft from another planet used by beings that talk . It is just something that is not known..

I think space ships from other worlds outside this solar system is not going on its to far and way to far to go . It would be hard for any race outside this solar area to get to earth and leave unless there ships are faster than light its self.

unless there is a space ship base someplace between pluto and earth that is a base to land these massive machines.....

Then it's still "to far and way to far to go" to even get to that base.

I've seen some species of fish, as well as dogs and cats, hunt for things that fly.

Humans do call our-self human and people.

Humans love to hunt for the unknown . for some reason. Humans do whatever they want. They look up and down and all around. But maybe some day a ET race will come and say ...Hi...And that is the day when we will need to say hi

world UFO images goes back 40 or more years. But I think most of them was space balls of rocks or planets. air ships and giant flying human made objects.

Yes; I think we all know that here. This thread is about how the news treats the reporting of so-called "UFOs". I don't think we need to discuss the definition or the possibilities of the general concept.

Boy did I read that wrong at first. Without the commas, that makes a good Monty Python sketch... A pregnent Tiger bears Fish-Dogs.

Watching the youtube video of it you can see the trees moving lightly in the breeze. A smoke ring would not last that long, especially not as a perfect circle nor stay in one spot. Also, how often is that Volcano going off? If it was a smoke ring from the ride wouldn't you have multiple smoke rings?
    Just some thoughts on it.....

Sorry; but I don't see the trees moving. I do see a lot of camera movement and a slow creep by the clouds.

How long would it last? I see only a few seconds on the video.

Here's a longer version from a ufo site. To me it looks like it's weakening, and it looks rather consistent with the cloud movements.

A ring doesn't need a still air, it only needs a non-turbulent air.

I can only speculate that it matches up with the 2 minute ride.

Yes; but if they disapate, then no.

Based on thier cartoonish map, it looks like the volcano is quite some distance from the drop tower, so it's also concievable that there was another ring just outside of camera range.

Don't you also find it odd that none of the news outlets showed what the volcano looks like when it erupts?

If you jump to the end of this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNs7BEzhIKY, you'll see another ufo just like at King's Dominion.

Ah, but if you actually watch the beginning, you'll see that sure enough, it's a nice smoke ring.

Well, if dolphins can blow smoke (er, bubble) rings, why not a ride at King's Dominion?

Nice video link, Rhaedas. The media needs to pay heed.

Of course they need to come clean for shameless sensationalism, too, but apparently that's what increases viewership and sells advertising, so...

There's been times at night that I had to do double takes and then a triple take, to sort out what I was actually seeing. One time, little flying lights turned out to be birds circling a security light, eating bugs, with the light reflecting off the birds. That was about a quarter mile from my location, at the time.

Night viewing can be real tricky, the way light and shadows intermix in the dark.

I've yet to see a daylight UFO.

This was in the Canadian media recently but it was only a matter of time before the term "UFO" was used. Fodder for the woo crowd.

    Ottawa Police
The Ottawa Police Service responded to the report
of a suspicious incident in the Ottawa River in the area of
the Deschenes Rapids at approximately 9:59 pm after
receiving reports of lights hitting the water.
The Inquisiter (gotta love the illustration)
The object had lights on it and appeared to change course several times, like a small plane struggling to stay airborn, before it hit the water.....On Tuesday at 1:30pm, they discovered an object about 9 meters (30 feet) below the surface, but because of currents and nearby rapids, sending divers down would be extremely dangerous since they would be instantly swept away by the currents.

The mystery? Authorities and residents have no idea what this object laying at the bottom of the river is. There are no planes missing from the area, no other aircraft like helicopters, etc. are missing.
Are not these called Unidentified Aerial Events now?

    UFO expert finds crash 'strange'

"I'd want to talk to the people who saw the lights," Rutkowski said, noting that the loud sound people reported was probably coincidental.
    Or

"..it may of sounded like an aircraft hitting the water, but it was more likely a flying saucer going for a swim."

    Update on the mystery object.

A UFO expert might be able to tell what this is a video of.
