Wink Hoagland Ad Quotes Fictional Expert

Check out the amazon.com page for Richard C. Hoagland’s book The Monuments of Mars: http://www.amazon.com/Monuments-Mars...2794730&sr=1-1

Scroll down a short distance to the Editorial Reviews. The fourth one reads:

"I'm sure you're aware of the extremely grave potential for cultural shock and social disorientation contained in this present situation, if the facts were prematurely and suddenly made public without adequate preparation and conditioning."
—Heywood Floyd, Head, The National Council of Astronautics, 2001

Dr. Heywood Floyd is a fictional character in Arthur C. Clarke’s Space Odyssey canon. The quote is from the movie version of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Nevertheless, here's more. I’ve since learned that that editorial review by “Floyd” of The Monuments of Mars at amazon.com is actually from the back cover: http://www.amazon.com/Monuments-Mars...&sr=1-1#reader

At least it's a valid quote... from the movie.

I'd love to publish a book someday, but I don't think I'd go through with it if I can't even get two or three actual good reviews for the marketing materials.

Typically, that should indicate that maybe your drivel isn't worth printing. But maybe that's just me.

Remember, it was stated that this "review" also appears on the back cover of the book.

There is a separate review section from them.

I was told elsewhere that the publisher submits them.

I'm sure it's all part of a marketing package put forth by the publisher. That's why you see the same "editorial reviews" on Amazon as you'd see on, say, an in-store display.

Though I'm not an author so what do I know?

    ROTFL!

Hoagland is knowingly making fraudulent claims with his books. Why should the reviews of his books be any different.

That guy's a real piece of work. I listen to him on Coast-to-Coast AM every now-and-then and have to bang my head against the wall constantly. The only really good thing I've heard him say is that we DID go to the moon. (Of course, it was to get the advanced alien technology that's there, but that's beside the point.)

My question is - do you think he really believes what he says, that he really is a full-blown crank, or do you think he knows he makes it up? I believed the former for the longest time, but I was talking with someone who saw him give a talk and she said he seemed more like the latter.

can you report stuff like this to Amazon? i'd think that they'd want to police things like blatantly faked "reviews" that are just quotes from a known fictional character?

Sure, amazon.com could be notified. But if they were to remove the fictional quote, then we would not be able to alert others to this specific phoniness within Hoagland’s advertisement there.

Mars, heck, get a load of this. Don't drink while reading, you may bust out in laughter and spew coke on your computer.

I suggest you search this site for "thelivingmoon" or "john lear". But, before you do, I suggest you cap and stow away your bottle of coke.

    Good luck, and have fun.

From that first site: "I once talked to a former NASA psychologist who said her job was to work with the Apollo astronauts after their flight to the moon to help them deal with the fact that they could not tell the public what they really saw there. He said they talked of huge 'constructs'."

In this thread at Apollohoax, an e-mail from Lear was quoted in which he said, "No I don't believe that any Apollo mission ever orbited and landed on the moon." Then Lear posted to the thread himself and talked about how the astronauts couldn't have fit through the LM hatch and how the plaster of Paris models of the Moon at Langley Research Center were used for the hoax and so on.

So . . . the Apollo astronauts never orbited the Moon or walked on it. And while they were on the Moon, they saw huge alien constructs. Lear isn't the only conspiracy theorist to argue these two mutually exclusive points; I've heard them before but it is still hard to get my head around this irrational argument. I didn't go to the drugstore this afternoon. And while I was at the drugstore this afternoon, I bought some Starbursts and a magazine.

I guess in some cases we CAN judge a book by its cover.

Were any of the Starbursts unwrapped? If so then maybe the Zetans are trying to tell you something...

    (sorry, couldn't resist)
