When sales for the theatrical version start to drop. Then an enhanced version will come out, but it still won't be what you want. The full-blown edition will come out when they've milked the lesser editions for as much as possible.

The full-blown version was never filmed. A proper treatment of the original material would have required six 3-hour movies with additional material added in the extended release.
I figure that 40-60 hours would give the book a complete treatment.
By "full-blown" I meant Jackson's extended edition, where each movie is 4+ hours long. That's all he made.
Having to sit through a movie that covered everything in the book would put anyone but the most rabid fanboy or elf-hag off epic fantasy for life.
