    Just watched some Firefly

Just thought I'd let some fans know that I watched some episodes of firefly tonight...it's been awhile since I saw one of them.

I watched "Our Mrs Reynolds", "Shindig" and the one where they dropped off cattle on a planet (can't remember the title right now).

I *LOVE* the theme song from the show..but who doesn't :surprised

    Just thought I'd share

    Pete

I'm going through them as well at the moment

It's fun to see the lovely Christina Hendricks (aka Mrs Reynolds) play evil on Mad Men.

As I've had some down time at home recently, I've been going through Firefly again myself. Love that show.

For some reason I didn't get interested and watch the series.

(Even though we own full box sets of Buffy and Angel - so obviously like the creator and his style.)

Then I saw the movie - which I enjoyed more than any movie in a long time.

So I regret not watching the series...

I took two nights and watched the entire series in proper order.

    I was highly impressed.

Probably because the Fox executives are morons.

When you have the change to try again, make sure to start with the Serenity episode as Whedon intended.

It's difficult to get into a series with an ensemble cast if you aren't introduced properly to the characters, which you are in that one.

I'll take this opportunity to boast a bit.

I own an original script for the pilot episode, Serenity. It's Adam Baldwin's copy. He auctioned it off for charity on eBay, and I won it.

It's signed by most of the cast, and Joss. Adam wrote a nice cover letter, too.

You may now all pay proper homage to my excellent Browncoatiness.

I never heard of the program when it was on the air. I quickly fell for the show when it was repeated on the SciFi network. It's amazingly well done and a terrible pity to think what it could've become had it been given the chance. The movie was great, too but I would've preferred to see the series go on for several seasons.

Given that so many people like the show, why is it not on again? Joss Whedon too busy?

I moved this to Small Media, as it seemed a better spot. No harm, no foul.

Not popular enough for the networks, which besides being a massive shame, may sadly well be true, as internet forums aren't really a very representative sample of the whole tv-watching population.

Sadly, most people never heard of it even while it was on (thank you so very much Fox publicity department). And yes, Joss Whedon has other projects occupying his time. Thank goodness we at least got a movie to wrap up a few loose ends-- most Too Good To Last shows don't even have that much.

And then there's Twin Peaks, where the movie was a prequel, half of which was very good and half of which undid a bunch of the continuity established on the show.

You can count me as a fan also. I loved the show and have watched each episode at least twice. Compared with other sci-fi T.V. shows, firefly is as good if not better than most. It is a shame that it no longer airs.

Firefly was the perfect show for me as I'm a big fan of westerns and I like cool techno stuff. Unfortunately, I don't even remember it being on television. I happened to see someone's signature on here that said something like "Bring back Firefly!", then saw that title on Hulu while watching episodes of the office. I watched every episode over a couple of days, then watched the movie. Then I was sad when I realized that it was completely over and I was late to the party.

That's about how I felt - I was late, too.

I watched the movie first because my gaming group was going to do a Serenity game and I needed to learn everything.

I watched the movie first because my best friend, her then-fiance, and my boyfriend took me along. I promise you, I've never regretted it, especially since it did lead to seeing the show. (Which my boyfriend gave them as a wedding present.)

That would be me, though I made a slight change to it recently. Do you recognize my avatar?

I'm both glad and sorry to have put you through the bittersweet experience of Firefly fandom. If you need support, there is an active fan group at www.fireflyfans.net. I haven't been around much lately, but you can find me there as DonCoat.

Probably too many commitments to other projects to untangle for all the cast and crew.
And Fox would just mess it up again, once again opening it in a kill-slot with no publicity other than fan word-of-mouth.

Nathan Fillion just started a new TV series, so I imagine he's not available unless it tanks.

I was the person in Houston who actually watched Firefly on Fox.

I did even know the series was out on DVD until I got them as a Christmas gift. I watched all of them the next day, then proceeded to make all my friends watch the DVDs with me. We ended up having about a dozen of us going to see Serenity on its opening day. Best sci fi of the year, and that was the same year Revenge of the Sith came out.

If there is any justice in the world, the Exec at Fox who killed the show is working dog shows now. If they had let the series go, they probably would have captured the trekkie crowd, and the show will still be on.

I caught the last half of Serenity on TV the other day, and so I watched the whole movie on DVD as I was grading last night. Continuing the trend, I watched "Serenity" and "The Train Job" today as I worked, as well as a little bit of "Bushwacked."

I have come to a few new (to me) conclusions about the meaning of the movie's title. Serenity was, in a way, the goal of the scientists on Ariel. This goal was even acheived to some degree, in that everybody just stopped an laid down. There's also the stark contrast where life aboard the ship is never serene, and likely never will be.

These are just a few incomplete musings I've wanted to share for a day or so.

The one that has always gotten me, which apparently no one else notices, is the name "Miranda." It always makes me think of Shakespeare, as I suspect it is intended to. "O brave new world, that hath such people in it!"

Sounds like you're right, Gillian. Since Miranda is a moon of Uranus, my thoughts always go there first, and I haven't thought the Shakespeare connection through.

By the way, all of the moons of Uranus are named after Shakespeare characters.

Which in turn leads one to Aldous Huxley's sci-fi novel "Brave New World," which was about . . . a government's attempt to create a utopian society.
