I've had an Astroscan for about 25+ years, and it's been a serviceable scope. The lack of a finder can be a PITA at times. I destroyed two camera tripods with it (17 pounds!) before I saw an article in Astronomy about making a 'pod out of PVC pipe and parts.
The only thing I can think of is "Possibly-maybe-perhaps" from Barry B. Longyear's story, "Enemy Mine" (first printed in Isaac Asimov's SF Magazine, later made into a movie). It happens in the English-language lesson part.
