    Something that might be nice.

Barring extra work for the mods that is.

That would be if there was some indicator to show if a posting as been triangle flagged already. I mean we have five mods on at the moment but there is a big honking spam posting sitting there like rat poop in a bowl of sugar and normally I'd hit the flag but I assume everbody else has seen it already.

Being a bit compulsive though, I want to hit the flag, "just to be sure". But I won't.

    This time.

    Well, maybe a little bit.

It would be nice, but would it not also lead to a flurry of "who reported me!?" discussions?

people used to post "Reported" in the thread, but one time I did it and I got accidentally banned by the software, when the spam thread was deleted...so people stopped doing that.

Don't be afraid to hit the report button, folks. Even if five hundred people wind up reporting the same post, all reports wind up in the same thread. It doesn't make a mess and it isn't any more work for us when that happens.

Much better we get a longer reported post thread than not find out about an emergency.

Same. Usually take the opportunity to send a line from the Spam song to the mods along with it. I'm sure it's appreciated and never gets old.

I did that the just other day.

I'm sure ALL the mods are about at the "Oh, I haven't heard THAT before" stage.

Monty Python was about absurdist, unpredictable humor, people! If you want to do them proud, you cannot quote from the Spam song!

Gillianren, when she reports a spammer, calls them Vikings. I am ashamed to admit it, but as a newbie mod, it took me a little bit to figure that out.

I figured that at least a sizable percentage of the other people reporting did the same (now I have confirmation! woohoo!). Too many people these days strive for individuality. I don't want to be like everyone else, so I've become a conformist.

My shame is personal, since I know large portions of Holy Grail by heart, as well as many of the various TV program skits. I have no excuse and throw myself on the mercy of the court.

Really, I only care about amusing myself with that one. The system makes you type something, and when I'm reporting "my, but this is horrendously rude" or "is this guy ever going to answer questions?" I have something to say. When it's a spammer, not so much. Hence "Viking." Though there has, in recent days, been one I reported as a "Chinese Viking"--I don't actually remember why--and one I reported as a Nigerian Viking--I'm sure we all know why.

Hey! I happen to know a Nigerian Viking, (at least by birth). I'll ask if it was him and tell him to knock it off. There CAN'T be all that many of them.

If he calls himself a "Viking", then he's not a True Norseman (tm). A True Norseman knows that "viking", from the Norse Vikingr, refers to an overseas voyage, not the people that underwent them.

Has that "reported" and then following the spammer into limbo bug been worked out? That actually sounds good. I remember that and the accidental bannings that followed.

    Well, I'd make sure I wasn't.

Actually, the real trick is to not hit the "end universe" button which, IMO, isn't far enough away from the "ban" button.

    I did that once.

They just came up with a more complicated, depressing universe.

Been in that pool. Didn't drown.

A couple of weeks ago Whirlpool followed up to a spammer, in article in topic Im sorry! But please read!, and I followed up to Whirlpool.

The spammer, opqr930, was subsequently vaporized, as well as the spam article.

We who followed up, and our followups, were not obliterated -- though the next day I did wake up from an afternoon nap thinking it was 6 AM in the morning. I got all dressed up to go and then found it was 6 PM and I still had a whole evening and night for my use. Bonus.

I dunno. Bannees may see them as equivalent.
