This is upsetting. I hope it is upsetting to enough people that we can fund a group of custodial satellites, to go through common orbits and remove dead satellites, and capture known bits of debris.

I'd expect mission plans to continue until they have really good data, rather than mere conjecture, that the risk has become too great.
