    Fireball over northern Germany

It seems there was a brilliant fireball over northern Germany yesterday evening around 8 PM local time. It was reported from several states in northern Germany, southern Denmark and southern Sweden. Also, a sonic boom and pressure were reported.

The only link I found right now was in German:

    http://nachrichten.t-online.de/c/17/.../17406272.html

The first link in the article gives a few pictures, to me, it looks like a clear fireball trail.

Oh yes, that was also seen in southern Denmark and western Sweden!

    Here's a video with a higher resolution:

It was seen from the north of the Netherlands too. (Dutch language story here.)

Yes, it was most prominently seen over southern Sweden, and I'm bummed to have missed it (too high up here in Stockholm). :P

The BA has posted a video, which seems to be the real thing (BBC and Swedish news have it too).

They didn't see this one coming? I guess seeing that last one in advance was a bit of a fluke, no?

Dang, I missed it. My windows face north too. It would probably have been too low in the sky from here though.

    Hey, a fellow German!

I missed it as well. there's a report that it was even visible from the Alps, as a shine on the horizon. But I have a south-facing window, weather was bad and I was glued to the screen...

I think the problem was lack of elevation - I'm up in the flatlands here. But judging from this path map it would have been low in the sky and probably over the horizon when it was brightest. Guess I'll have to wait for the next one.

(Unrelated: I went to a conference in Ilmenau last year - nice area!)

    Talking Meteorite pieces found!

Pieces of this meteorite have now been found on the Danish island of Lolland.

And it turns out that it's one of the very rare Carbonaceous Chrondites!!

The pieces will go on display soon in the Geology Museum in Copenhagen.

So far, I have only seen a German news report on this, so no link right now...
