Okay so I found this weird thing...

On the screen door of my back porch I found this small bug or fungus thing growing (or stuck to) the screen, I have no picture of it because it is so small you couldn't see it anyway but under a microscope it is a round gold metallic egg shaped thing with black texture marks running over it. The top is open like a cup and has small perfectly spaced clear spike/hair things around the rim, there are only six or so of them. Inside there seems to be nothing so I'm pretty sure this thing has served whatever purpose it had. around the outside of it are more small black spikes and one extremely long one at the very bottom where it connected to the screen and the others of its kind. When you put it over light it is transparent and over the cup opening at its top is a round cap piece, also metallic, that comes off very easily when you poke it with a tooth pick (i.e. I'm an idiot) The thing is no larger than a grain of sand and came in a bunch.

Any ideas as to what it is?

I was gonna describe them as eggs from the alien movie, the shape is very similar. Oh gads, tiny aliens?

I would call them eggs but the lid things on them are closed and yet they are hollow.

A photograph would be most helpful, but barring that, can you make and then post a drawing? Also, a rough location would be helpful...North America, Australia, England if so what state/province/nearest city, etc.

Also, please do tell us if something dreadful bursts forth from your abdomen....

Chrysalis (Wikipedia)? I think I've seen many have metallic sheens. The word comes from Greek for gold.

Sand grain-size seems pretty small, but I suppose there are insects that size, too.

Whatever you do, don't remove the round cap piece, particularly by poking it with a toothpick, as that will set a whole chain of very undesirable events in motion.

Okay, Gondolla, I've been thinking about your mystery structures. I'd be willing to bet they are insect eggs of some sort. I'd still need to see a picture (a digital camera with a macro setting will take pretty nice pictures) or a drawing to have a chance at an accurate identification. Well, aliens aren't very good as a deterrent, neither are nuclear weapons, as most aliens got rid of those long ago and forget what they looked like.

But they're pretty good at cleaning up the aliens, unless, of course, they're from Mars.

Atomic bombs are wayyy overkill. But you will need to torch the house, the yard, and the houses and yards that ajoin yours. Just to safe you understand.

Cool beans! Next year, watch what type of adult insects hang around your door frame or windows and maybe we can figure out exactly who has been using your house as a nursery. Also, if you Google images for the keywords insect, eggs and door, you'll find all sorts of other cool egg photos.
