Sounds like the Midwest (where I was born/raised). I recall driving home (32 miles) from college. The fog continued thickening, and by the time I got home the orange lights from car's hazard flashers were reflecting off the fog! Visibility at that point was probably 12 inches. Fortunately we lived in a very rural area. I cracked the windows in order to hear whatever vehicle might be approaching; fortunately none. Generally is very foggy where I grew up in spring especially, and often early winter. Ugh! Fog is terrible.

We were supposed to get some light rain yesterday. It ended up being about a half-inch of white stuff, which was nowhere in anyone's forecast. Had to clean off my car before I could go home.
Everything I need to know I learned through Googling.

Had a short blizzard this morning. My jet was held up in Yellowknife. Got out at 2pm and arrived in Edmonton at 4pm. 'Twas a balmy -9c at the international airport. So nice to be back home were it is warm!

Possible snow forecast for the Puget Sound area this weekend and into Monday or Tuesday. They're probably planning the school closures as we speak. It takes only about one flake. If they'd done that in Montana where I grew up, I'd be in about the 3rd grade by now.

We had freezing rain last night, so all the trees and bushes are encased in ice today. This is beautiful, but you have to watch out for falling icicles when you go outside.

So true, 'snowphobia' around here is pretty bad. My guess is that stores will be out of batteries, hamburger, and toilet paper by tomorrow while people prepare for the 1/2 in. of wet snow that some areas might get; and will last about 1 hour. It is difficult with the hills we have, and the wet sloppy snow we usually get is tougher to get around in than drier snow. Still, people tend to have a disproportionate reaction to even mentioning the 's word'...

I did see the trucks spraying whatever it is they put on the roads to prevent them from freezing last night.

Cool, probably 48 F. Partly cloudy; thin clouds. Calm. The sort of day you wish the clouds would thicken and produce rain, or just go away.

Overcast, with a mighty breeze. Temp was warmer earlier. Dropped to 33°F now. But.... no snow to shovel.

Snow is forecast over the weekend more or less..not a major dumping but rather showers with local accumlations of an inch or so depending on where you live in the area. Daytime highs are forecasted for high 30's into the 40's so I doubt roads will be too treacherous. Doesn't keep people from panicing though.

Areas N. of Seattle usually get hit a little harder because of local weather patterns.

Here's a little more on the subject...yes, whole news articles are devoted to the fact that it might snow, and snow showers are in the forecast. THere is a local weather blog that does a good job of explaining local weather.

Just wait till it actually does snow, the news channels will have 24hr coverage...sheesh!

It's currently cloudy and 7°F at the house. As of Wednesday, the official snowfall for Anchorage this winter stood at 81.3 inches...as opposed to the 41 inches that is typical at this point. Due to unseasonably warm temperatures (up to about 40°F) over a couple days, we had water intrusion at the house on Wednesday. So I had to leave work early to don an aggressive pair of ice cleats and climb on the roof to break a couple of ice dams but not before shoveling my way through more than 2 feet of accumlation to get to them. When I came down, I then had to shovel the snow I had pushed off of the roof. Being slightly wet, the fall from height compacted it nicely...not quite like cement but still firm enough that I alternately chopped and shoveled. I didn't finish until 9PM.

At least I'm not in Cordova or Valdez. They've had 18 and (I think) 27 feet so far this year.

Ah yes, the good ol' Puget Sound Convergence Zone. Which I live right smack in the middle of.

    Meanwhile, PetersCreek has actual weather!

    OMG, WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!

Which is to say, it's now snowing a bit here in the Puget Sound Country! It's about 35F, so the snow is actually mostly liquid. Panic will be in progress anyhow.

Saw some of that on national news earlier in the week. Unbelievable! Even childhood in the Midwest can't compare. However, we do have old 8 mm film of my father walking up a snowbank against our house and setting his foot on the roof (single-level house). I well remember tall drifts and upwards of 4 feet of snow. But what's been going on in Alaska would make me claustrophobic.

Our weather today is cool, probably 52 F. Sunny with high wispy clouds. Calm. Boring. Want rain or warmer temps!

I have to report that the start of our rainy season is horribly late. It should have started in late October to early November and so far I've had exactly 0.00 inchs of rain! (That's 0.00mm!)

    I'm quite concerned.

You can have ours. It'll likely melt on the way south.

Any snow up your way, Treb? We got nada down here, not even a flake (I live not too far from Sea-Tac airport). I did drive up to Bellevue today, which had maybe an inch of wet slushy snow that was melting with temps in teh high 30's-low 40's.

Oh yeah, we've got a couple of inches in Everett. I see the TV stations have gone into 24 hr snow coverage mode. If it's going to snow here, having it start in the middle of Saturday is a Good Thing. Folks can stay home and the local governments have a little time to get their act together before Monday. (Remember when the city of Seattle sold ALL of its snowplows one summer?) I plan to pretty much stay in myself.

I just learned that the schools are closed tomorrow anyhow because of MLK day. That's of little help to most folks who have jobs, however. We're supposed to be getting more snow into the week. Could be interesting on Tues-Wed.

We're in full Snowmaggeon 2012 here, which similar to Treb means showers with snow sticking to yards, but mid 30s means roads are just wet. Of course this means every news crew in the area is out telling us where they saw snow and generally acting like this has never happened before, and if we're not in full panic mode yet, we should be.

I work in Redmond, that might be an interesting commute tommorrow. Hopefully they're getting above freezing temps as well.

I'm gonna go build a fire (in the fireplace...), have some hot chocolate, and watch NFL playoffs. That's how I panic...

Well, although I said I was staying in, I've been out. It was an emergency: My wife needed her afternoon latte! I picked up tomorrow morning's while I was at it and stowed it in the fridge. Driving is not bad at all although I always get nervous about kids sledding and driving little 4-wheelers in the road. I grew up in Montana -- we never sledded in the road!

I experimented, where it was safe, with the ABS in my wife's Honda Pilot. Seems to work pretty well, allowing decent directional control. I was going to try turning it off for a comparison but it turns out you can't. I was thinking that there was some condition (very deep snow?) where you're better off without ABS but apparently Mr. Honda disagrees.
