Very open-ended ending. Neo dead/alive? I suspect that he is "alive" in the Matrix itself....this story hasn't ended. Would you like to see a continuation??? Yes/No?

Let it live as is. There's peace, leave it to the public to figure out how long it'll last. Neo probably is 'in the code' somewhere but Trinity's toast, well acupunctured actually.
If you want to see stories set in the Matrix universe, buy the Animatrix. Pretty good flicks, you get to see the history of that annoying kid, the final flight of the ship that warned Zion that the machines were starting to dig (referenced in the meeting at the begining of Reloaded). And some others, the history of the man-machine war, haunted houses being glitches in the Matrix, etc.
Just don't do to it like Lucas is doing to Star Wars. #-o
I liked the first one. The concept was pretty good. I liked the way they tied everyday things like Deja Vu into the story.
I just saw the second one last week, and thought it blew. So obviously a sequel meant to cash in on the success of the first.
I think that's how big budget movies get made now. They make the first with an ending that seems like a good place to end, but just open enough to toss together a sequel in a hurry if the movie is a success. Hedging the bets essentially.
I'm NOT at all interested in the 3rd one now. Although it's supposed to be better than the slipshod second one.
Reloaded was just sad. They said 'hey, that rotating camera angle in slo-mo was cool in the first one, let's use it every 5 seconds in the sequel.'
If something was good in the first, they must have figured even more of the same thing would be better in the sequel.
And I really don't like the whole superman thing. Next Neo will drop the trench coat for some spandex tights and a cape.
I'll probably see the last one when it hits DVD. But The Matrix suffers from a couple issues:
1) The writers blew their load on the first one. The sequel had no real story line going on. It was essentially a two hour trailer for the 3rd installment.
2) Effects guys must have quit. More of the same effects, just used more often to get those dollars worth of CGI.
3) More love interests and triangles than a Shakespeare work. Beyond maybe (MAYBE) the Neo/Trinity romance, the love story part is pointless. Worse, they seem contrived, basically just tossed in because 'don't all these movies have love triangles?'
Reminds me of Phils take of Armegeddon's love story.
I think sequels should remain in the realm of the slasher flick.
I think the story did end as intended, and a continuation (though inevitable) is unnecessary. The whole purpose of the story was to make you think, and intentionally leave stuff open for your mind to play around with. Tying every knot at the end of the movie would go against this philosophy. We know what we need to know (that there is a truce, and humans will be given the choice to be set free or live in the matrix), but the rest is for the enjoyment of our imaginations.
Think about it... had they answered all the questions, tied all the knots, etc... you wouldn't even think about the movie again. I think the hallmark of a good story is to allow the imagination room to expand. Who is it that said, "Always leave them wanting more"?
I voted for a new storyline in the Matrix universe. Not so much a continuation, just more stuff like the Animatrix (but no more cartoons).
All this being said, Matrix Revolutions did disappoint me, because my favorite parts of the Matrix movies were within the Matrix itself. Revolutions had about 2 or 3 Matrix scenes, and it seemed like 90% of the movie took place outside the Matrix. The fighting scenes were always absolutely incredible in the Matrix, and after Reloaded upped the ante, I was expecting even more from Revolutions. So I was let down in that sense, and had to settle for Mechs shooting at Sentinals and a Superman vs Superman fight. I wanted more Scorpian kicks!!!
I like the Matrix universe. I'm just really, really tired of the whole "Neo-is-Jesus" crap. I mean, it's just tired. A frickin' voice from heaven calling out "It is done"... Jesamuh-frickin'-christ.
Hank...you are absolutely right. Revolutions only "flaw" is exactly what you stated.Originally Posted by HankSolo

I know. Replace the Matrix with its Determinant.
I've never even seen the Matrix. I heard it was kind of lame, so I went and saw something else that was probably equally lame. Good movies are so hard to come by these days. That's why Star Girl and I make our own.
SollyLama: if you hated the Neo superman thing in reloaded. You will hate the neo smith fight in revolutions. Somehow now Smith has the powers of superman and they both fly and attack eachother.

hey! star girls movies are hilarious!
The Matrix films are not lame. Over-hyped, yes. A bit pretensious, yes. Loaded with exhibitionist FX and fight scenes, yes. But they're still decent science fiction films, perhaps the best to come out in recent years, IMO.Originally Posted by space cadet

Looking back at the Trilogy a few years down the track, there has thankfully not been a move to create new stories in the Matrix. I absolutely loved the first Matrix, to such an extent that it was one of the first movies I actually purchased on DVD.Originally Posted by HankSolo
I think from the standard of the first Matrix it was absolutely inevitable that any sequels made would likely disappoint, and so it turned out. The 2nd film was definitely a lack-lustre affair, a time-filler to set-up the 3rd flick. Revolutions was to me an alright film, but nothing special, certainly not ground-breaking like the original.
The fact is, making sequels and putting TV shows on the big screen is the standard way Hollywood operates these days to try and make money and reduce risk by building on proven success. The budget requirements of films being one of the major reasons for this, at the end of the day, the big studios are in it to make money and when you're paying actors $ 20million or $ 30 million, you want to make sure people turn up to see the thing in the cinema, and then comes the marketing budget and for movies laden with special effects, costs just blow out to an extraordinary degree.
I haven't voted, because my "No, because I couldn't stand the first one and made no attempt to see the others" wasn't available for selection.
I'd just as soon flog the Whatchamacallit Brother/quasi-sister duo with a rubber hose for Reloaded and Revolutions, but the milleu itself has a lot of possibilities, so they do get to live through the abuse.
If you're really hot for something more, the Matrix Online is out there for your bullet-motion, kung fu geek needs.
Y'know, though, the Animatrix wasn't bad. I liked the stories in those a bit... so it's not really whether one continues the Matrix (I mean, like, if we decided to STILL continue the Matrix), but rather, how one goes about doing it.
They should have stopped after the first.
I think they should have made the two sequels, but just made them better, and a LOT different. There were some pretty nifty concepts and ideas in the last two movies, but they were poorly implemented. IMO, at least.
I (eventually) saw the first one. It was okay, though it's difficult watching if you've seen The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert as often as I have. You keep wanting to snicker madly at really inappropriate moments, such as any time the villain guy tries to act threatening, and you're thinking of him in a big plastic wig and shoes that make him ten feet tall . . . .
Ahem. Anyway.
A girl I went to college with went on and on at me once about how original its internal mythology was, and all I could think was, "Maybe, when Lucas used it in Star Wars--but not even then." It was a very shiny movie, I'll give it that, and I love Laurence Fishburn enough that I'll watch the episode of M*A*S*H he was on every time it airs, but . . . Keanu Reeves as the savior of the human race? I'm sorry, no. He Played Ted. (And suspects strongly that'll go on his tombstone.)
I read an interesting review of the second two that suggested that some of the changes were because they decided the first one wasn't enough like Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and I felt that confirmed my instinct that I shouldn't see them.

"I can't believe it doesn't work! I found it on the internet, man!"
I thought that Keanu Reeves made a good hero figure, personally. *Shrugs* Maybe that's just me.
I think the whole thing needs to be redone.
I think the whole thing isn't worth redoing.
Heh, my latest story is similar to "The Matrix", but it's FAR more based on the original Matrix from William Gibson's novel Neuromancer, and the Matrix in Shadowrun.
I voted "no" but like Kashi I think it should have stopped after number one. That was a brilliant movie. The rest ruined even that.
well, star wars started out with the other stories... he just took forever to put together a rather ho-hum version of the beginning.Originally Posted by Captain Kidd

Y'know, the major problem for me in Revolutions was the total and complete lack of realism. I mean, it was to the point where it was just stupid. What the hell were those mechs?! What were the point? Just a bit more metal, you'd have an environment suit and full-body armor. But instead, they left the pilot completely exposed to every thing that could possibly harm them (like toxins, ricochets, etc.)
Plus, the Final Fight Scene was just... silly >.>
On the other hand, I thought the scene where Neo died was interesting - the "Messiah sacrifice" type thing, and it was kinda sad when Trinity died, so there was potential for me, personally.
