    I sold my car today...

It was the first car I'd ever owned, we had it for 10 years...a 1995 Civic hatchback...they are rustbuckets in Canada, the salt from the roads eats them alive. Mine was worse that most for rust.

And Yet I was still sad when I saw the new owner driving it away from my house for the last time...

Things we owned for so long , especially if it has a sentimental value meant a lot and if it has served you for a long time.

    But ...

Time to move on Pete , buy a New one and you won't be Sad again .

The vehicle I'd owned the longest expired on July 1, 2006. It held many good memories, but held some sad ones, too. Thus, while I was sad to say good-bye, it was with mixed feelings, as parting with it was part of my moving on towards a different life.

As fitting a young man who had bought a fast sports car as a first car...
    I was in love.
    She was my baby.
    Kept her sparkling clean.

And one day, fell asleep at the wheel and hit the center median at 74 mph.

    I came out unharmed, miraculously...
Had to sit on the side of the road and wait on the cops and such- and sat on a cactus. that was my only true injury from a wreck that removed all straight lines from my car.
She died that day, her life blood gushing out on the freeway, laying there upside down on her topside.

    I was crushed.
Never fell asleep at the wheel again, I tell you what!

Heh, you kept your first car for ten years... Quaint!

I'm 26, bought my first car at 16 but now I'm on #11. You can do the math. I tend to have three or four at a time though.

Lots of people remember their first car with fondness or pride. Not me. It was a pile and I never got it roadworthy, and I didn't have anywhere near the skills needed to do so. I liked the ones that came after a lot better.

Well when you consider the average price of all of them was about $500 it doesn't seem so ostentatious. :P

I remember driving away one fall night from the Honda dealer in my new car and seeing my old one, also a 1995 Civic Hatchback sitting abandoned and emptied of all my things in the darkened user lot where they had relocated it. First car I had ever owned.

It's insane, but the tears flowed.

My first car was an '87 Nissan Hardbody that I picked up for about that price. It needed some electrical work (which was enjoyable to do), the radio didn't work (easy enough to replace) and it was fairly rusted out, but otherwise it ran great.

$900 <-- (still own that one)
    $350 <-- (sold for $1700)
$300 <-- (a legitimate junk heap. Sold for $450, after selling $400 in parts from it)
    $200 <-- (sold for $250 - yay, profit)

    Etc., etc.
