It seems that taking care of your blood pressure clears up a lot of minor inconveniences I had atributed to just aging. I'm reacting really well to the meds and I've been hovering around 108/75 with a 72 pulse.

Would that be half the pressure of 220/150, or does it work that way? Lowest I read was 101/65 with a 72 pulse and I had to call my sister the nurse about how low is too low and she said that 101/65 was an ideal blood pressure, though that looked like an internal hemorhage to me. (I guess the pulse rate would be higher though.)

A bunch of stuff is clearing up, from swollen feet, sometimes bad enough I had to double check to see if my shoes were on the correct feet, to freaking 'roids going away to improved kidney function. And it's been what? A week and a half since I started the meds?

What else should I expect?

I think you'll be okay mfumbesi, it's a valid point, they don't call hypertension "the silent killer" for nothing.

It's great to hear that the meds are helping BigDon, if it helps at all there's some good stuff on hypertension on NHS direct who ought to be pretty reliable.

The way blood pressure is presented is explained well there but basically what the X/Y format means is that there are two phases in your heart, when your heart is contracting to push blood around the body and the other one where... it isn't and is just refilling. the X number is the pressure whilst your heart is forcing blood around your body and the Y number is the pressure in the "refill" phase (note this is a somewhat simplified explanation and is also for obvious reasons based on my knowledge, I am not a doctor so take all information here as being potentially down right wrong).

What else should I expect?

I got the dramatic excitement of postural hypotension.

Through weightloss and exercise, I drove my blood pressure and heart rate to new lows. One day I ran a couple miles, got dehydrated, came home, didn't drink but napped in the sun, warming my legs and back so my blood vessels opened wide to carry away the heat, and then awoke, jumped to my feet to go inside, got to the front stoop, put my hands on my knees for a wee hypotensive headrush, and woke up with my face on the concrete. A wrist, elbow and knee were sore. I probably collapsed like... a sack of warm, dry potatoes.

Don't worry: I didn't face-plant so I'm still pretty. Could have. I suppose I could have died if my head hit just right.

Now, whenever I change shape, I pause over some nice soft landing, for some seconds, to give my heart time to make sure my brain will stay oxygenated. Live and learn.
