Unhappy I heard a disturbing rumor:

    I heard a disturbing rumor:

There is a plan in the making, to divide the internet into national borders, and tax usage outside of your "border".

You will also need a type of Internet "passport" to access outside your "border".

Do you have a source for this rumour Nosepicker?

You might be talking about internet commerce and sales tax. Some countries and some types of activities are already taxed, e.g stock trading over the internet. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

In some parts of the world there is Internet control... It can be beaten.
A direct up link through a satellite network bypasses the local phone company and the ability to control your activity is lost. You will not be taxed for Internet usage., But you can not have it for free... there is a cost.

Ah..I see. That's a conspiracy forum. If you frequent that place, it's no wonder you have frowns and confusion marks all around you. I can't even open that link, it says' your IP has been banned'. Well, phew...

Stick around at BAUT Nosepicker. If you hear a disturbing rumour over here, chances are it'll be true.

"debunked." thrown out., dismissed., proved to be false., and, Debunked. Do not kick your self. That would only result in unnecessary contusions and bruising.
If you go into 'those' web sites that are frequented by the panic merchants and they are watching us brigade... Its rubbish. Instead come wander through the pages of well informed knowledge that is this site " BAUT " The bad astronomy and universe today web site is filled with the very knowledge you seek. and its free. and real. and big brother does not care about you doing this.

Wait. Some parts of the rumour might be true. Who knows? All I'm saying is 1) Wait for a better source and 2) It might not turn out to be as bad as you think.

NosePicker, for future reference, consider godlikeproductions (usually known as GLP) as the anti-BAUT. If I read there that the sky was blue, I would have serious doubts about it.

As others said... don't kick yourself. Take it as a learning experience.

The key to any of these internet rumors is names and sources. I haven't gone to the link provided (I try to avoid GLP like the plague) so, I'm not sure what might be considered reliable sources or names.

But; Those things help in doing a bit of research first to gain a confidence level and will help with asking the question in a way as to not sound like a fool. (Even non-fools sound like fools on occasion)

You know why you shouldn't kick yourself? Because you asked for verification before assuming it was true. That's more than you can say for a lot of people.

I had also heard a rumor somewhere on the net that there is/was a possible plan to start selling the internet in packages such as cable tv is, where you geta certain set of websites, and any extras will cost more.

Just a rumor though. I hope it doesn't ever come to anything like that. Keep the internet "free", as in all access. Still gotta pay for it though.
