Not sure how to feel about this change.

I was a big fan of the outgoing captain. He was a strong leader and decisive. Cold blooded. He was never rattled at times that it really mattered. At the same time, things were pretty stagnant. Something had to give.

The new guy brings star power, something we haven't had for while around here since the 1990's. He's quicker and less predictable too. And he's hungry.

I guess I just have to concede that the change was necessary and see how it all plays out.

I have to admit though, it's going to be tough seeing Chauncey Billups in Denver and seeing Allen Iverson in a Pistons uniform.

Sometimes it's less about qualifications (or at least, proven qualifications) and more about popularity. Being associated with the old system can often be a big detractor for a candidate--even if they don't have the same ideology as the entrenched system. Popularity, apparently, can even out weigh experience and valor on the battlefield.

Still, it'll be exciting to see Brady Quinn as the starter in tomorrow night's game. After all, not all change is bad.

(this is a fun game )

I do fear that we may have made a bad decision going with such a young man to lead us. A veteran with a history of leadership and not being afraid to go against the status quo can be very positive. It may just work out that a little time to sit back and learn the game might be just what the doctor ordered for our new enthusiastic leader and when the time comes, he/we could be better of for it.

That's why I'm so supportive of Kerry Collins starting for the Titans. Vince Young may be the future but this time out of the spotlight will make him a better quarterback. Woo-Hoo! 8-0 Baby!

My opinion is that things in this country were going in the wrong direction in many, many different ways. Our new leader could not be more welcome to me.

Somebody here is not following the conversation and is reacting to the title. (or so it seems)

At least we only have to wait a day and a half to see what kind of effect this change is going to have.

Tsk tsk ... It's MY job to not read fully then jump to conclusions (see yesterday's thread about increased auto accidents on election day)

Ah, you're lucky. Apparently the NFL network's rules say that in the home cities of teams playing on thursday, they're allowed to broadcast locally on ABC/NBC/Whatever. It's still in question if the Cleveland-based channels here in the Columbus area will count. I may have to listen to it on the radio.

They were in the Eastern Conference Finals last year (the last six years in fact). It's not like they were that far off track. But change was necessary to push them over the top. That being said, change for the sake of change isn't always a good thing. See the Detroit Tigers.

You know, that's really funny. Up to the point where I re-read last line of the post I thought that the cold blooded captain was Bush.

Yeah, that's kinda what the effect was suppose to be. That's why I think this is such a devilishly enjoyable thread.

There comes a time when change is needed badly, and nearly everyone agrees on that point, though they may disagree on the kind of change needed. Yet there is always a hard-core group that resists change tooth and nail, often because of their own deeply vested interests. They feel, perhaps justifiably, that any change will take money out of their pockets, perhaps to be (shudder!) spread around to those less deserving than themselves.

That's why it's so unlikely that we'll ever see a playoff system in Division I college football -- the bowls hold all the cards and they'll never agree to the loss of prestige (and hence income) that a true tournament would entail.

    The day after...

As the news said this morning, "Defeat snatched from the Jaws of Victory".

Iverson is set to make his Piston's debut tonight in New Jersey. Should be interesting to see how he meshes with the offense. Detroit is 2 - 0 without Billups or Iverson in the line up. Speaks well to the overall depth of the roster.

You can't blame it on Quinn, but I wasn't blaming (squarely anyway) the other five losses on Anderson either. The O-Line only has enough stamina for 5/8ths of the game; falling flat somewhere around midway through the third quarter. The defensive line is great; running against the Browns is usually a hard fight to win. Their secondary is pathetic.

And the more I watch, the more it seems evident that it's all coaching. Bad communication and a near constant state of confusion between the players on the field. Missed assignments. Stupid offensive playcalls. It just goes on and on.

Living in Detroit Lions country, what I wouldn't give to have a team as good as the Browns.

Our O-Line has enough stamina for the entire game, but that's pretty easy when you play matador style.

Yeah, Lions have it rough. As do Bengals, and from what I saw last night, the Broncos. It's just the Brown's played more like the Browns than the Broncos did. (And what's with a team that's 4-4 leading their division?)

Right, I probably should have stated that, since that goes along with the tone of the thread.

I actually thought that of the defense instead. But...

I saw a lot of expressions by Q that seemed to be disagreeing with something he heard from the sidelines.
I also saw a lot of what I think was a zone defense in the second half. I hate zone defense.

On the radio this morning, they were talking about how this may be good for "2 men and a truck"*, as far as coaching is concerned.

The good news is Edwards only dropped one pass (IIRC) and it was a difficult one anyway; but I think they also only threw the ball to him once. Winslow made some costly mistakes, but that's fairly atypical for him.

    Uh, what?

    Curry's a bad coach.

    A.I. doesn't fit the system.

We're in full rebuild mode. I keep hoping that this summer Dumars will fire Curry, rehire Flip, and tell the media, "See, it wasn't the coach!" But that won't happen. For whatever reason, 58 wins and constant title contention wasn't good enough, but Curry will get a free pass no matter what happens. Change the expectations and anything is good enough, I suppose.

Sorry, I forgot to include my subtitles (it was probably wrong in Spanish anyway).
Yeah, see I don't follow the NBA. I should, as my beloved city of Cleveland is still hang'n on at the top of the conference, and has the second best record in the league... but even still I can not make myself care.

Now I am excitedly awaiting the start of the NCAA tourney. That's always fun to watch.
