Well, I suppose that'd depend on what you want to be able to do with the cell phone. Do you want something that's only going to be used for convensional telecommunication, or do you want to be able to browse the internet and send e-mails/chat, etc.?

I like my blackberry, though this particular one is pretty outdated now. I got it when I was working night shift, so I could use instant-messenger to chat with friends and stuff from work. Now I only occasionally use the chat and internet features, so when time comes around for a free upgrade phone (used the last one to replace g/f's broken phone), I'll probably dump the BBerry service and go back to a regular cell phone. Of course, most "regular" phones can do the same things this Blackberry does.

I like the "smart phones" that run windowsCE; but for me, I don't have enough need to justify the cost.

    Huh?

first i would like to point out that nearly all cell phones are Chinese made.

second, people will suggest phones that they have had expirence with.

it is kind of "put offish" to ask for recommendations then in the same sentence say that you don't want to hear about or want anyone to recommend any type of smart phone.

this thread is actually a bit offensive to me in the sense that i feel like if i give you my recommendations i have a distinct feeling that the original poster will yell at me saying that he/she did not want the recommendation i suggested.

(at least that is what i got from the post)

there for i will refrain from making any suggestions.
    cheers!

The problem with fancy cellphones [3G capabilites] is the cost of data transfer packages.

So, if all you do is talk [like me - because I don´t like small screens], any 100-dollar model will do [even the Chinese ].

    yea, your probably right.
although my plan gives me unlimited data on the 3G network and 400 min with rollover (guess which carrier i have) all for 60 bucks a month.

If anyone is wondering I have the HTC 8925

    it has:
    GPS radio
    WIFI Radio
    Cell phone Radio
    GSM/GPRS/EDGE: Quad-band 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
    Bluetooth 2.0
    3 megapixel camera
    4 gig memory card
    neutron emitter
    touch screen
and runs windows mobile professional 6.1...

i picked it up refurbished for 99 bucks from my carrier.
I have dropped it onto a concrete floor twice and kicked it across the garage once without any internal damage being done.

I have to say that this phone is the best phone i have ever used.

In the past, i have had Motorola, Samsung and LG phones. I have used the Treo 600 for a couple of years.
and while this phone has its issues, I could not be happier with it actually i like it better than any of my previous phones

I do most of my posting on this forum from the unit.
and the Opera Mobile and IE are great internet browsers. the Opera Mobile browser lets me look at any web page and lets me access HTTPS sites.

oh yea, i can also run Skype on it too.

but i will not recommend it as it takes a bit of computer "savyness" to get it to work correctly all of the time.

    Cheers!

Cute. If I ever move to 3G [when plans become cheaper, when Telecoms get less greedy, when I´m out of love for my money...] I´m probly going for iPhone.

suntrack2...what's this with the 'not chinese' stuff?

most of the things (and/or their components), one uses nowadays are made in China,
including lot of delicious food (ask the foie gras eaters)/ingredients. even telescopes!

without going off a tangent, let's say, the cellphone choice would depend on what you have available locally; your personal preferences (excluding the 'chinese / not chinese' factor); your budget (sans the keeping up with the jones's element); and the phone's functionality. don't you think?

what do your local vendors say / advise? what are their offers on up-grades?

personally, if i had to change my phone, regardless of the phones on offer....yes, feeling the 'crunch'...i would keep away from the hoity-toity stuff and keep it simple. the diff. in money, i'd rather use for my baby. any day.

Okay, this is definitely the phone I want. Who cares about any other features, I want to be able to make things radioactive!

    Hey Grey,

Live commentary on test match cricket days makes much radioactivity.
    It's brilliant!

I've got 1GB per month for €8.50 flatrate; doesn't seem too unreasonable. I use it as a modem when my DSL is down.

Incidently I run a Samsung SGH-760. At the time I just wanted a basic phone that would fit in my jeans pocket, but it's actually pretty nice. Decent camera, really good battery life, and a nice screen. I'm particularly impressed with the included software which is about as far from bloatware as you can get - simple and functional. Also, it came with a USB data cable which some phones don't.

My main complaint is range - I wish it had a telescoping antenna and a more powerful transmitter. I have trouble getting a signal in woodsy areas or in shopping malls.

1GB/month? That's less than what I pull per day.

Oh! HenrikOlsen, that's great means your cellphone pulling the data more than 1GB per day, what a huge traffic though on your cellphone. it means the back up of the cellphone may be more larger than the normal cellphone. ! ofcourse that aparatus must be more costly.

And don't forget to think of more mundane requirements. For example, for me it is very important that the phone has speakerphone capability. Surprisingly many hihg-end models do not.

...and make them glow, would be extremely useful, pooper-scooper-wise.....particularly now that the nights are drawing in, when taking Tallulah for a 'walk in the park', and on the occasion, missing the, you know, doodahs, (camouflaged by the grass).
Well, what can I do? Twenty minutes later, looking, lie of the land etc., like a Ryder Cup player, still can't locate, unless I ssssstep into it (done twice)....

Sorry, I missed the cell phone part, to me mobile internet is something I use for a laptop, so I took my normal download needs not those of my phone.
