I wonder what technology will be like...??

    hi again!

I wonder what computers,lasers,..and everything else will be like in the future?? 10 yrs,20 yrs, 30 yrs from now....and beyond???

imagine if there are no technological limits!!!

would society be like Bladerunner, Star Wars, Star Trek??

I think its having a vision...of things to come..where one day science fiction becomes science fact..

    who knows...time will tell!!

Thats ONE general opinion that is generally held by many, and the OTHER is that as there are so many computers, the up and coming generations will "dumb down" as the computers do all the work, so there will NOT BE A BETTER increase in technology or their limits will be defeated by the next generations ignorance and FORGOTTEN SKILLS and LOST SCIENCE that initially drove the growth.

EG, any one in their 20's or 30's know Fortran, or how about COBOL, or know how to keep the "technological machine growing" ?????
Using technology is NOT THE SAME AS CREATING IT AND KNOWING WHAT TO DO.
The basic skills that started the technological revolution will be naturally lost over the next generation or 2 and after that we will still be struggling with the most basic of issues that create growth...

Unless the youth of today and tomorrow re-learn the basics and keep them alive, future growth will always be impeded and find new avenues of expression in the likes of say "new sciences" like nano technology, or genetically engineered chemical or bio-computers, or similar frontier sciences that are yet to emerge, and yet to prove necessary for the benefit of us on this third rock.

It already has, and time did tell. Read some Jules Verne. But yeah, it's fun to dream about what may happen. I expect a lot from mobile technology in the near future.

I expect the morlock/eloi split will get wider as more and more tech passes the Clarke limit.

One thing is for sure. Some things will change in ways that nobody expected. We can go back and read Jules Verne and other science fiction pieces from years ago, and there will be some parallels, but not as many as you might think. 50 or 70 years ago, some people expected the advance of technology to involve private airplanes replacing cars and maybe robots doing all the work for us ( and perhaps taking jobs away from us as well). Not too many people envisioned the power of computers, at least not in a typical home. Mass communication was limited to two way communication via telephone and tv. In other words, people saw the future as improvements on existing technology, but failed to see how new technology (transistors, integrated circuits, orbiting satelites) would render some of the old tecnology obsolete. The question for us now is not how our technology will improve, but what will replace it. If anyone has a guess about that, only time will tell if they are right, and most of these guesses will turn out to be wrong.

here is a link to something that was posted here a while back that shows what our future was going to be like starting 100 or so years ago.
    tales of future past
one has to wonder what that web page will look like in 30 years when it is beamed directly into our brains via our telepathic link to the worldwide human neural net...

nanobot wire interface to a matrix type system, where we spend most of our time, in a virtual world.
It would be the best thing in terms of energy resources, and pollution.
People could unplug, to do various maintenance, or research, as scientists.

I'm not really sure if it would be an altogether good thing, but it makes sense.

People could do work within the matrix, like teaching and other socialy interactive activities.

I think "Red Dwarf" had a "matrix" virtual reality in one of the shows before "The Matrix"; and I think Dr Who also had something along those lines, although I can't remember where I read that.
