It has been a feature of life that groups of
people sometimes get bad press for various
reasons. Very bad leaders try to deflect
attention thia way it seems. But in modern
societies there is much media coverage to
highlight bad trends and hopefully nip them
in the bud.

But yesterday as I half listened to a program
on benefit claimant cheats, it occurred that
no covering statement that it was only a very
few people cheating was given. So the public
has a pointer that all claimants are
malingerers! People who are doubly unlucky
in being unemployed and coping with an illness!
Is it a deliberate policy in public
governance these days? Exact numbers are
always avoided when stroking public opinion.
And I always want numbers.
