    Does this anger anyone?

    National Post Newspaper

A Barrie mother of an autistic girl is considering legal action against her local school board after a psychic's prediction to a special educational assistant sparked a sexual abuse report to the Children's Aid Society.
It's truly bizarre that the school board took this psychic seriously.

It didn't brighten the BA's day.

It absolutely infuriates me. But I've already posted about it at the top of BA's blog thread, and don't really want to work myself up again.

I'm more incredulous than angry. On the positive side, this nonsense got some pretty clear responses.

I say there is an invisible elf in my backyard. How do you prove that I am wrong?

The good news is the Children's Aid Sociey acted very well and quickly dismissed the matter. The bad news is it is hard to imagine that the teacher and the principal were that stupid to report it based on a psychic (well, unfortunately, I have no trouble imaging it). I thought this quote from the school board superintendent was interesting:
School staff and administrators have a duty to report, under the Child and Family Services Act when there is suspected abuse and if they believe there is reasonable grounds.
Uh, reasonable! I think the teacher and the others at the school need to be disciplined for this nonsense.

It's kind of a s--errm--sucky spot for the administrators. The report comes in, and they dismiss it; but later other evidence of abuse arises...well, I know most of you understand how the media works like I do. You don't see "After bizzar claim, evidence arises in sexual abuse case". You see "School ignores sexual abuse complaint; abuse allowed to continue."

I think it's unfortunate that they would have to even submit the claim to an investigation agency just to CYA, but in the same position, that's probably what I'd do aswell.

Frankly, I blame the psychic and no one else. The school had to report it (see Fazor's post) and CAS had to look into it by law - and they dismissed it right away. So, bad situation, but it worked out in the end, I guess.

yeah, but this is one of those allegations that sticks with whoever was accused of doing it forever- even if it never happened. people never look at that person the same ever again.

I really hope the people who act like this on the advice of a 'psychic' are not reproducing.
