Hi does any one knows if voyager 1 or voyager 2 can stil take photos? I know they have power resourcres till at least 2025 it would be very cool to see a picture of earth from such a distance...

What do you think Earth would look like from that distance with the narrow-angle camera?

Voyager program

As of the present date, the Voyager 2 and Voyager 1 scan platforms, including all of the platform instruments, have been powered down.

Maybe Nasa New Horizons could fill the bill..

The PRA instrument was turned off not too long ago to save power, I doubt there's enough to get the scan platform back on.

Earth would show up as a fraction of a pixel, if that. Such a picture was taken in 1990 or so.

I know that s an inspiring image but that beam of scattered sunlight take a litle of impact of the image

At this point, there isn't enough power to turn the cameras back on even if they wanted to. Chances are that most of the imaging software was disabled long ago, as well.

actually, the beam of sunlight is thought by most to add to the impact of the image- we are insignificant creatures on an insignificant blue pixel that is floating in the light of an average star.

Somebody else had that thought, and the result was my avatar.

The "shaft of light" that the Earth's pixel is suspended in is in fact an image processing artifact, by the way. I'd have to search for a cite on that, but as I recall, to get the pixel that contained Earth's light to be as visible as it is, they had to really stretch the data, which brought out all manner of image artifacts and noise.
