So they were able to keep him from going around the park clockwise???

    ;-))

(Got a chance to go to the Indy museum in the middle of the track last year and take the bus tour around the track. I'm not much of a racing fan, but they've got a GREAT collection of cars in the museum -- and not just racers but lotsa antiques. Definitely go if you get anywhere around Indianapolis, it's open all year round...)

And I for Meira. He was on terrific race, and did the most thrilling overtake I´ve seen in many years of Indy.

Too proud to name "him", much less give a story link?

I kinda felt for him too. Dixon wins, yet the bigger story, at the time, seemed to be Danica Patrick being turned away by officials, on her way to pit of the guy that took her out of the race. Great win by the "iceman" forget "milkman".

I hope to see better races now that IRL and CART have merged back together again.

Bigger where? Even here in Indianapolis the Dixon win was the top headline on the front page, and the Danica sidebar was below the fold.

Actually, she was headed toward his car (where he was still sitting on pit lane).

Good thing she was stopped. The look on her face was that of someone out to rip out vital organs!

A local columnist's take on the aftermath.

In the days since Danica Patrick's aborted face-off with Ryan Briscoe, I've learned a few things. Like this:

Men are feisty. Women are *****y.

Men are perfectionists. Women are whiners.

Men are tough-minded. Women are over-emotional.

We had none of this over-heated and often sexist commentary when A.J. Foyt rained blows on Arie Luyendyk's head in 1997.

Back when I was in high school, and friend of mine and I drove to Indianapolis and we each got a chance to drive around the track five times in his hot rod! Every time I watch the Indy 500 I always remember that day.

Excuse me, but, as the brazilians say, the victory fell on his lap [no pun]. Vitor Meira had a superb car until the last pit stop. You could see by the way he drove without any effort to keeep the car on track. Danika was a side show, as usual.

You mean that when she won the Indy car race in Japan, in April, it was just a side show?

Oh, that was great! I generally root for her when Brazilians have no chance to win[rarely].
