    Lightbulb Gamma Ray Burst

What would the effects be on the earth's biota if a GRB hit the earth? How would i use this topic as science fair (ISEF, it is professional and serious with thousands of dollar prizes and international fairs). I have been studying papers writen but what could i do to make a good project and research?

Buy the Bad Astronomer's new book Death from the Skies. But, it's not out yet.

I'm pretty sure he's got a chapter on GRBs.

For your questions: it all depends. How distant? How well aimed?

    Welcome to the BAUT Forum.

(If GRBs are big concern for you, you might want to search around this forum (it looks like you maybe did, reviving a several-year-old topic) and read. I bet you'll learn that GRBs aren't a very likely threat. We'd have to have one aimed right at us, and probabilistically it's unlikely -- but not impossible. I don't have time to provide that for you, but it's been discussed a lot here.)

We charge students by the hour.

Seriously, whatever effects there might be depend upon magnitude and duration. We're hit by GRBs all the time. It's just that they so distant they have very little effect. However, if a star within a thousand light years went supernova, it would have some rather serious effects on our biosphere.
