Sunspot 987 29-Mar-09

Attached is an image of Sunspot 0987 (I think -- I thought I was getting the bigger 0988, but looking at SOHO, I think it's 0987) taken today at about 3:00pm PDT / 22:00 UTC from Southern California.

It is 500 frames of about 4,500 taken with a USB DMK camera through a C-8 with a solar filter. The seeing was poor as clouds were moving in. In addition, it was windy, so the scope was being blown about. However, with the bright object ( ) I was able to go to 30 fps and get some decent frames.

Processed in Registax and PixInsight.

The sunspots were right along the solar equator.

Nice pic.

I had a look at these through my PST a couple of days ago - there was also a nice filament too. I would have imaged them in H-alpha but i'm in the middle of a house move and all my gear is packed up.

I suppose it's not really pretty, but it is interesting. I was happy to get surface detail through the mylar filter.
