Uploading a new attachment works, but at least some threads with attachments from before the move still doesn't show them.

Even weirder, my Reply window just grew noticeably larger, after it grew smaller.
I logged in, checked a couple of threads, and posted a response in one; the window seemed normal size.
The next time I used it, it had shrunk to maybe 1/6th screen width.
Now, it's grown to 1/3rd screen width.
Huh.

I have a feeling the problem is in how different browsers interpret the source code in the web page. That would explain why Firefox "sees" it differently from MSIE. (There was a time when web page creators had to have several browsers available and use them to view a new page... to see if it looked the same, or at least okay, in the different browsers.)
Now, add this to the weirdness. I just posted a response in which I used the COLOR code. I highlighted the text, clicked the big A, and the reply window maximized itself. (There! It did it again! Didja see? And it stayed max'd even though I didn't select any color attribute.)

My reply box is shrunk, too.
I've hardcoded the quick reply to be 450 pixels wide. Is that working?
It looks about 3 times wider now, for me. Holds around 80 characters default, across. It's a tad wider than the "non-quick" reply edit box that you get with the Quote button.
Yeah, this design won't shrink. I could make it scale, like be 50% of the available width, but that could break other things.
Ok, I don't know why, but the Quick Reply box is now back to its normal size.![]()
Well, obviously they're not doing it now or we wouldn't be talking.
Right?
(It's interesting that the reply box looked okay in Firefox but not IE. MS is still the 800-lb gorilla, so you'd think a page developer would make certain the page looked okay in IE if nothing else. I'd expect any problem to be with Firefox or some other minor player. Is this anti-MS bias?)

I've found very few pages that work in Firefox but not in IE...I've found markedly more pages that work in IE but not in Firefox... which is a shame because I think the 'MS' in 'MSIE' stands for "More spyware!".
But here at work we're required to use IE anyway, so it's only from home that I get to use FF. (Oh, and I haven't gone on here from home since the server switch, but BAUT on FF always worked fine in the past).
Yes, all of our official work websites (including the ones I enter my time in and get my paystubs from) are only fully compatible with MSIE, which I've always found annoying: you can code to the official standards, or you can code to Microsoft. Why are you doing the latter?
Everything I need to know I learned through Googling.
Especially since coding to Microsoft is coding to a rapidly changing target

It drives me crazy that I even have to keep IE on my computer at all. Actually, I have three browsers on my computer, because I like Opera best, and I like Firefox better than IE, and I need to have IE.

He once gave me a bit of undeserved grief over feature loss and broken features in Word (merge in particular) and Outlook that seriously impacted our ability to deliver correspondence and tax forms to our clients, and a similar "upgrade" of Crystal Reports. (Cranky day on both our parts, I think.)
Well, if he didn't quite believe it before, he believes it now. We haven't had a single Microsoft upgrade yet that has genuinely improved things.
It's not so much like asking for the deck chairs to be rearranged on the Titanic as much as complaining to the waiter about insufficient ice in their drinks.
Come to think of it, even though we're officially a "Microsoft house", our applications actually work better under Firefox, except for one intranet server which actively blocks non-MS browsers. We've had something new come up where we lose important functionality due to the IE7.0 popup blocker which we've been unable to turn off completely for our app site.
The few progs that sneakily use Firefox don't experience this problem. Not even with adblock plus and noscript. (Their exception rules actually work, after all.)
I learned a long time ago that fussing with design is a sucker's game. I'm perfectly happy to live with the default design that the vBulletin folks slaved over for years. There is no way I'm going to mess with it, just so we can look a little different from all the other generic vBulletin boards out there.
Same goes with Wordpress. The more I learn, the less I stray away from the software's core functionality. I used to have a bunch of hacks that I would have to re-apply after every upgrade. I make one tiny hack that changes the size of thumbnails and that's it.
The only change I'd find interesting would be to add a link to the http:/www.bautforum.com/showthread.php?p=1195052 way to reference a post in a thread.

Well, good job!Thank you.It is much faster now.
Just out of curiosity, what were the specs. and system of the original servers and what they are now on current server?
The new server is a Xeon 5100 dual core with 4GB of RAM. The old one was a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz with 2 GB of RAM.
Sounds nice. Wish I could reach it reliably today. BAUT is up and down. Server (servers, universetoday.com 67.228.209.248
bautforum.com 67.228.209.250) is unpingable at times. Slow as... really slow stuff, at others.
(Network to seattle-datacenter.com was OK. Things only bogged down from there on.)
This is going to sound hilariously ironic, but we were trying to install a caching software that was supposed to make everything faster. And it actually bogged the site down to nothing.
Is the server still in Winnipeg?
(I've never been in Manitoba. Have been in the provinces on either side.)
